Abstract

Agriculture, forestry, and horticulture form the foundation of food security, ecological stability, and nutritional well-being. Agriculture ensures the production of staple foods, forestry maintains biodiversity and regulates the climate, while horticulture enhances income and dietary diversity. This paper examines the interlinkages among these three sectors and the need for an integrated approach to address climate change, urbanization, and population pressure. Drawing upon global case studies and international institutional reports, the study highlights climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, and horticultural diversification as pathways to sustainable development. The analysis underscores how integrated land-use models—such as agri-horti systems and community-based forestry—can simultaneously address food security, ecological restoration, and economic growth. The findings emphasize that collaborative policies, technological innovation, and international cooperation are crucial for achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
