Abstract
A theoretical investigation is carried out to study the steady and dynamic performance of a porous land tapered slider bearing lubricated with an electrically conducting couple-stress fluid under the influence of an external magnetic field. The governing modified Reynolds equation is formulated by incorporating the effects of porosity, couple-stress fluid behavior, and magnetohydrodynamics. Variations of steady-state pressure distribution, load carrying capacity, dynamic stiffness, and damping coefficient are illustrated graphically. The results indicate that an increase in the permeability parameter leads to a reduction in steady pressure, load capacity, stiffness, and damping characteristics, whereas these performance parameters are significantly enhanced with increasing magnetic field strength and couple-stress fluid parameter.
