Abstract
This study examines the elimination of sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS), an anionic surfactant, from water with a new composite adsorbent prepared from biochar produced from banana peels and calcium alginate (BPBCA) beads. Batch adsorption investigations demonstrated optimal removal (95.55%) at pH 7, utilizing a 0.06g adsorbent dosage, an initial SDBS concentration of 50mg/L, and a stirring duration of 60 minutes, resulting in qe of 39.85mg/g. The process obeyed pseudo-second-order model and the Langmuir isotherm, exhibiting a qmax of 46.51mg/g. Thermodynamic analysis demonstrated spontaneous adsorption, validated by negative changes in Gibbs free energy. The environmentally sustainable composite can effectively remove SDBS from water.
