Abstract
There is a great need for the creation of a modified script for Devanagari which is used in many languages derived from Sanskrit, and its cursive form due to various reasons. Some previous attempts have been made but they have been futile. This paper provides the basis for a modified script for Devanagari which will be called Saralanagari (meaning Easy Script). It presents the problems of Devanagari and how they are solved using this new script. This script aims to simplify the writing of Devanagari-based languages, while maintaining the core characteristics and sanctity of the original script. This paper also introduces the cursive style of Saralanagari called Vakranagari (meaning Curved Script). It also compares the proposed scripts with other scripts and explains why it is better. This paper also explains the basis on which the modifications have been made.
