Forensic Toxicology is a branch of Forensic Science which deals with the study of different types of drugs or poisons, whether they are organic, inorganic, metallic or non-metallic, animal or plant poisons or drugs. In this paper also we have differentiated the three different types of depressants drugs from the most common three plants which are mostly consumed by the common people and are under the category of drugs extracted from the plant which acts as a poison on the consumer and these drugs are depressants which slows down the rate of working of a person who had consumed it. These depressants are easily accessible to the consumers and are also known by the common name ‘weeds’. The Papaver somniferum is a type of plant which gives us poisonous drugs such as Opium, Morphine, Codeine, Heroin and Oxycodone. Similarly Datura stramonium gives us drugs such as atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine. Cannabis sativa also provides us a drug named as Marijuana which is consumed in three different forms known as bhang (mixture of buds, flowers and leaves), charas (resin of cannabis fruit)and ganja (dried form of cannabis plant). In this research work, we have extracted the different types of poisonous drugs from different plant parts and also examined the drugs through the various chemical colour tests to get the surety that correct drug is extracted and instrumentation techniques are also used to check the quantity of the poisonous drug derived from the plants.
