Abstract

Attempt has been made to study the treatability of textile water using coagulation- flocculation process and adsorption method. Experiments were carried out to attain the optimum doses of coagulant (FeSO) and flocculant (CaO). The result showed that 2.5 kg/m of CaO and 2 kg/m of FeSO4 were the optimum doses achieving 61.3% COD reduction from the effluent. Batch sorption experiments were also conducted to remove COD from the effluent by using commercial activated charcoal. The obtained adsorption equilibrium data were found to follow Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The maximum monolayer sorption capacity was 0.25113 kg/kg. Effects of adsorbent dose and contact time were also investigated and found that adsorption of COD increased with contact time and adsorbent dose. Kinetic data were fitted with unified approach model and the rate constants were evaluated.
